Why I started Utenzeal

My name is Gotame. I live in London, and for me healthy living starts with healthy food. Healthy food starts at home, in my own kitchen, with the pans, the kettle and the air fryer I use every day.

For years I bought kitchen things the way most people do. I looked at the price, the colour and the reviews, and I never asked what the parts touching my food were made of. Then I took a proper look at what was in my own cupboards. I found plastic kitchen items we had been using for a long time without knowing what they were made of, or what sort of plastic it was. Nobody had told us, and we had never thought to ask.

When I went looking for answers, they were hard to find. Brand pages said non toxic or healthy coating and stopped there. Lists online named a few products but did not show where their facts came from. Very few looked at every part that touches your food, and almost none did it for products sold in the UK.

So I decided to build the website I wanted to use myself.

What Utenzeal does

For each air fryer and pan we list, Utenzeal records every part that touches your food, what that part is made of, and what the brand, a manual or a published test says about it. Every quote links to its source. Where we cannot find an answer, we say so plainly rather than guess.

We do not test products in a lab, and we do not give health advice. We report what sources say, so you can decide for yourself. How we do this is set out on our How we check page.

Who I am

My day job is in supply chain and technology, so checking what goes into a product and where it comes from is part of my working life. Utenzeal is my own independent project. No brand owns it, pays for it or tells us what to write.

Independent and reader supported

Some buttons on Utenzeal take you to a shop. If you buy something, we may earn a small commission, and you pay nothing extra. It never changes what we record about a product. Every product we check is listed, whether it earns us anything or not. Our affiliate disclosure page explains this in full.
